POET'S FORUM, CommonUnity Project

PoeticWorks Radio (PWR or Power) was especailly designed for our PW family to come together and bond through spoken word. Your host and co-host, Michele and Jayyo come together each segment to promote talent, announce upcoming shows, highlight featured artists and catch up on current events. There is never a dull moment on PWRadio and you never know whose going to grace our mic.

UpComing Show

On 24 January 2009 @ 1pm we will host an open mic with a TWIST! This month in addition to hosting a spoken word open mic, we will be welcoming POSITIVE hip hop to our radio show. We are encouraging all positive hip hop artists to grace our lines and showcase your verbal skills. We will also be discussing the very controversial topic, "Is Hip Hop dead?" We welcome all thoughts as we analyze hip hop, past, present and future.

Our radio show is quickly becoming a very popular show. To recite your poetry, hip hop or announce upcoming events call into 347 426 3380.

Be HEARD!

In February, I encourage ALL WOMEN to call in and pay homage to the man that has made the greatest impact on your life. It could be your father, husband, boyfriend, teacher, friend, or any man that you feel has made your life better by just being there. Call in to recite your poem to him or just tell him what he means but this February, PoeticWorks is switching it up and making this month especially for the men! Ladies, here is your chance to tell America what your man means to you. Men you don't want to miss this, consider it your "big piece of chicken!"

If you would like to be featured on an upcoming show, send us your name and a brief bio to poeticworksllc@gmail.com.

Eulipian Award

My name is Eric Wattree, and I’m a Eulipian representative. I’m a writer, poet, and jazz musician.

I recently heard Mecca Dawn’s theme for Poetic Works and I just can’t get enough of it. It has already become one of my all-time favorite pieces of spoken word poetry--and coming from a Eulipian representative, that’s no small deal.

I also want to recognize Michele for the industry and creativity that she's demonstrated in launching Poetic Works. With her continued creative promotion and guidance the site is sure to become one of the most thriving forces on the internet, and a place where Eulipians around the word can call home.

Thus, both of these talented ladies has earned an honored place in the Hall of Eulipia. So by the power vested in me, I hereby, declare Mecca Dawn, and Michele (with one L) official citizens of Eulipia, and honored residents of Eulipian Hall, with all the honor, respect, and praise attendant thereto:

THE EULIPIANS

Some of the greatest minds I've ever known held court while sitting on empty milk crates in the parking lot of ghetto liquor stores. At their feet I embraced the love of knowledge, And through their tutelage defined self-worth In my own terms.

These were the “Eulipians”—writers, poets, musicians, painters,
and uncommon drunks—those shade-tree philosophers who contemplate the fungus between the toes society;
Who dance with reckless abandon,
unfettered by formal inhibition
through the presumptuous
speculation of the ages;
Who live in county jails, cardboard boxes,
alley ways, and luxury Apartments.
Insignificant here in Great Bruteland,
but of ultimate significance in the eyes of God.

While these obscure intellectuals
stand well outside the mainstream
of academy, I’ve watch
with astonished delight as
they sang, scat, and scribed their
various philosophies into the
mainstream of human knowledge.

Their philosophy?
knowledge is free, thus,
will transcend attempts
to be contained through barriers
of caste and privilege,
leaving man's innate thirst
for knowledge free to someday
overwhelm his lust for stupidity.
