CommonUnity Project- Coming soon!

CommonUnity Poetry is a community action project started to give inner city youth a creative means to effectively voice their opinions, while promoting creativity, instilling pride and establishing a sense of accomplishment in difficult tasks while strengthening the community and promoting excellence through Spoken Word and the arts.

The CommonUnity Project will be designed to be an after school meeting place for our youth. While there, the focus will be on tutoring, community service, the arts, and sharing like thoughts and ideas with other children. Counseling and mentoring will be available by our volunteers. Different projects will be completed each quarter. Some of the projects will be to have the youth publish their very own book of original poetry and market it (book signings), poetry slams with possible entries into national youth slams, and to create a community project designed to help others in different neighborhoods.

The Director of CommonUnity Poetry is EMichele Paul, President of PoeticWorks. She is also a US Marine who has served her country in 2 combat tours to Iraq and a Joint Task Force in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. She is also a single mother of 2 little boys. She has spent the past 18 years serving her country honorably, yet she feels she could do more. She founded CommonUnity Poetry to create a brighter future for inner city children. She grew up in a single parent home with an alcoholic mother, who at the age of 15, kicked her out of the house. The only steady foundation and mentorship she received was from her grandparents. She could have driven her life down a destructive path. She could have used her setbacks as viable reasons as to why she took wrong turns but instead, she did the opposite. She chose not to become a statistic. When she didn't have anyone to vent to, she wrote poetry. To this day, she attributes poetry to saving her life. She hopes that CommonUnity Poetry will do the same for the children it reaches that poetry did for her.

CommonUnity Poetry is currently seeking sponsors and volunteers. All money donated to the project will go towards the funding of the project. Everyone participation in the project will do so on a voluntary basis only. We are currently planning to host the project in either Texas or North Carolina no later than June 2010. For information regarding CommonUnity Poetry and to request information regarding sponsorship fees, please send an email to poeticworksllc@gmail.com and you will receive an email within 24 hours of inquiry for all interested Sponsors.
